Universities

Lisaac is the first object-prototypes oriented language using system programming tools already compiled. Two languages are at the origin: the language Self for its flexibility and the concept of dynamic inheritance and the language Eiffel for static typing and advanced security through programming by contract. The compiler currently produces ANSI C code itself compilable by any appropriate compiler (GCC ...), therefore Lisaac is intrinsically massively multi-platform. In addition, the results on the objects compiled show that it is quite possible to obtain executables combining the speed of C at the last high-level of object languages.

The design and implementation of the operating system Isaac led to the creation of a new programming language called Lisaac. This naturally integrates the protection mechanisms for communications, system interruptions as well as memory mapping for the drivers. All this combined with the implementation of prototypes and dynamic inheritance make for a language that perfectly matches the architecture of the operating system.

The aim of this project is to overcome the internal rigidity of existing systems, which are too dependent on low-level languages used for writing. As a result, the operating system Isaac was itself completely written in a high-level language.
